Poetry - Dragon
You’ve awoken a beast
a beast laying dormant
waiting to be stroked and satiated
waiting to be seen and heard
waiting to be activated at its core
a smokey, firey, hot, dark, powerful, steaming core
dimmed and laiden with dust
after years of misuse, neglect and misunderstanding,
disregarded by souls who’d long abandoned the living realms
after treacherous battles fought with fists and spears
against soulless armies with selfish missions of war
you’ve awoken a beast
a beast that’s started to breathe electric life force into the abyss
the abyss in which it hid alone
nursing wounds from days gone by and familiarity lost
this magnetic flame has been lit
ignited by passion and surprise
many lifetimes of searching and longing
and now, this beast has opened its eyes
slowly blinking its being into the present moment
one…two…three…
this beast who has been chained for so long
is now ready to rip open the gates of darkness
running wild and free
wide-eyed at the newness and livity of each tiny particle in sight
ready to soak up an endless, bountiful flow of natural discoveries
through every hardened scale of its armoured, tired body
but wait, wild thing
…calm down
there’s a softness in the air
a quiet hum of sweet delight
why rush?
time to savour life’s nectar now
…slowly
